David, Lauren, & Cooper

My friends David and Lauren were in town last week with their new pup Cooper.  David and Lauren are getting married in a couple months and I couldn’t be happier for them.  I’ve known David for a few years now and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Lauren.  David’s a hometown boy and loves Pensacola so we knew these pictures would have to express the area.

Talking about getting hitched at the courthouse.

Aren't they a great looking couple? Lauren is going to be a gorgeous bride!

I loved that David and Lauren wanted to include their “baby” Cooper in the photos.  Check out his popped collar…

Too bad Cooper can’t be in the wedding.  That little guy would look pretty dapper in a tux, don’t you think?

New Beginnings

A few weeks ago I met Ashley and Ryan – a really great couple who were expecting their first baby and wanted some photos of this expectant time in their lives.  They are such a sweet couple and they’re going to be fabulous parents.

Here’s my favorite of Ashley.  These photos were taken around their home and this spot in particular was special to them – it’s where Ashley told Ryan the big news.

Ashley was feeling pretty tired last time I saw her but it didn’t show.  She’s one of those girls who looks so beautiful pregnant, even if she doesn’t feel her best.

How pretty is Ashley?!

P.S. Ryan and Ashley had their baby girl Presley on March 8.  Congratulations to them on their new addition!

Wow, I’m a bad, bad blogger lately, huh?  No good excuses.  I could tell you that it was the holidays, then I went on vacation, came down with a bad cold, and have been busy at work…but really blogging takes 10 minutes of my day so those are pretty lame excuses.  I’ll be better – I swear!

In all seriousness, this is a really busy time of year for me at “real work” so I’ve been behind on my photos.

Last weekend I visited my little buddy Adrianna.  She’s 7 months old and so stinkin’ smiley! I really didn’t have time to go through all of her photos the other day but then I saw this one in my catalog and I couldn’t resist spending some time on it.  I can’t wait to get to her other photos (and her mom probably can’t wait either!).

I love that smile!

In other news, my website is currently inacessible…to ME.  I can’t upload anything to it right now so I’m relying on the blog until I get it fixed.  I guess that means I’ll be blogging more often, right?  Right.

Taking a break!

I haven’t posted anything new recently for a few reasons:

1.  It’s Christmas so I’ve got lots to do.

2.  I still have a “real” job.

3.  The only photos I’ve been taking have been for ad campaigns, photos of my own family, and photos for a friend’s non-profit promotions that can’t be published yet.

But I’ve been busy with some behind-the-scenes projects like:

1.  Planning my winter vacation to Utah.  Yea!

2.  Planning my spring trip to Photoshop World.  Yippee!

3. Trying to find a print shop to tie into my website for easy ordering.  Sigh…keep you fingers crossed on this one.

Until I have some fun new portraits to post, enjoy some old Pensacola images!

Nathan and Mary Ann

Happy Thanksgiving.  I had a great time with my friends Nathan and Mary Ann over the weekend.  Hanging out with them always puts me in a good mood!  Mary Ann is due with their first baby in February so they needed Christmas card photos of their last kidless year.  They are going to be such awesome parents.  I love that these pictures show how sweet they are to each other.

I can’t wait to meet their little one in just a couple of months!

Real Job vs. Fun Job

The past week has been a rough one.  On top of my “real job”, I’ve been overwhelmed by volunteer work and boards, photography work, and all the personal junk that clutters up my days…cleaning, Christmas shopping (yes, already!), bill paying, appointments, etc.  It’s been heaven to take time out of my days to develop photos though.  Sometimes I wish I could do this full-time because it makes me so happy to start my workflow with a full media card and end up sometime later with a few photos that capture the moment and make me smile.  On the other hand, I really like being able to pay the bills soooooo…back to work I go.

Here are some shots that made me smile today.  On Sunday, I had the pleasure of photographing my friends Joe and Laura’s beautiful children.  These two are so adorable – polite, funny, and so cute.  And their mom has such a great sense of style!

I also had the pleasure of meeting my friends Shawn and Leslie’s sweet baby Harper this weekend.  Harper is three weeks old and just perfect.  There’s no doubt she’s going to be a beautiful little girl.

You can’t have a family picture without a cute dog in it.

I want a dog just so that I can take family photos with it.  Maybe I can borrow someone’s dog for my own Christmas card pictures.  Don’t get me wrong – I love my pets.  It’s just that my cats don’t really aspire to be models.

If their parents ever need a break, I would happily take both of these cutie pies home with me!

Buddy is so cute.  But as his daddy says, “You have to embrace the fatness.”  I tried my best to use only slimming poses for sweet Buddy who was exhausted by his modeling gig.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing two of my friends’ brand new babies.  As I was editing these photos today, I kept thinking how proud I am that my friends have such perfect, cute babies!  Because let’s be honest, they aren’t all this adorable!

Although you can’t see it in the above picture, Arianna is wearing a sweet little pink tutu.  If that doesn’t make you go “awww!” then you have no soul.

Oliver let me tag along with him to pick out a pumpkin.  This kid is bound to be a great man.  His parents Scott and Janet are some of the funniest, kindest, and most thoughtful people I know.  No doubt Oliver will make them proud.

Fall on the Gulf Coast

Fall comes and goes pretty quickly around here so it’s best to take full advantage of it while you can.  This past weekend, temperatures only reached the low 60s during the day and the sky was the most perfect, clear, crisp blue.  It was the perfect opportunity to experience fall on the Gulf Coast.  We packed the weekend full of apple cider, beef stew, pumpkin patch, corn maze, walk in the woods, football, and jack-o-lanterns.

I hope that we get at least one more fall weekend this year.  Please pass on any suggestions for great fall photo opportunities!

These are a few of my favorite…

…places!  I recently pulled together a collection of my favorite location photos for a project.  Luckily, most of my favorite place pictures were taken right here in Pensacola.  Thank heavens I like my adopted hometown so much.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some great places – usually with the intention of taking tons of sightseeing pictures.  But my favorite shots are always the details and the people that make a location unique.  For instance, this woman I met in a village in Macedonia.  She was just baking bread in a traditional outdoor oven.  Nothing unusual for her, but not something you’d come across in Florida.  So it became my ideal Macedonia photo (and one of my all-time favorites).

And sometimes, my favorite shots of a trip are a little more grandiose than an old woman baking bread.  This one, from a trip to Russia a few years ago, slipped by unnoticed in my Lightroom gallery until recently.  I don’t know why I never picked it as a favorite on prior glances, but it’s grown on me.

I’m always searching for new “favorite places” so if you’ve got suggestions, post them to me…especially if they’re in driving distance of Pensacola!  See more Favorite Places at www.mlchapman.com/places/gallery.html.
